The man had been living a near solitary life for the past 11 years ! There was a big rock which resembled the Kailash Parbat from one side and the other side exactly like the North face of Chomolongma – great ! Some of the Sherpas climbed it. Was a long walk back to BC.

Rest day. No headaches, thankfully. Saw a group of Chinese tourists who had arrived early in the morning – especially to take photographs of Everest.

The lumpy ride thereupon was bearable as it was only 10 miles from Base camp. Reached by 1400 hrs ( China Time) – we are at 5080 metres now. Our camp had been set up by the Sherpas at a place presumably because it shielded from high winds.Near our camp is a set of tents by the locals who sell various items and run small restaurants/ shops.

Opened up feet to the Sun. Got to know that the petrol pump here is a matter of three fuel hoses in the hotel compound. Read a little Kureishi. Guys played pool till lunch. Siesta. Coffee. Acclimatisation walk, climbed a small hill.Couple of hours. Back by 1930hrs.

Ended up taking things from the kitchen ! Walked with Kankan Sir. Watched a documentary on martial arts of China. Spoke with Lt Cdr Chopra at Everest cell. Confusion arose regarding itinerary – we insisted that we wanted to stay here for two days.
