Left for the Summer palace by 1600 hrs. Close by. A very green compound. Saw a Radio and a Piano gifted by Nehru. Whatever others say, the Dalai Lamas lived in luxury.

Had lunch enroute at a very beautiful place - valley, sheep, mountains, a small stream ! The road was excellent once we hit the highway. Entered Lhasa around 1700 hrs.

Went for an organised tour to the Shigatse monastery of 14th century. Houses the biggest Maitreya Buddha Statue. The monastery belongs to Panchen lamas.

A lot of delay during lunch and Kankan Sir and I screamed at our interpreter-guide Norbu. Cdr Dam called me and castigated me and also told me that now he has got to know me, he wouldn’t have taken me in the team if he had known me before.
