Started from Lha – Tse at 1010 hrs. The route was partially asphalted. Tried in vain to sleep. Reached Shigatse by 1315 hrs.
Checked into Shigatse hotel, a 3-star one arranged by CTMA. Took a real bath. Went for an organised tour to the Shigatse monastery of 14th century. Houses the biggest Maitreya Buddha Statue. The monastery belongs to Panchen lamas. Went for a short walk in the evening, the place looks very clean and is also the 2nd biggest city in Tibet. Played a Hindi CD in the dining hall, courtesy Bhanoo. Called up Roney.
Went out after dinner – prostitution is thriving and rampant. Piled into a waterhole, and couldn’t control my sleep in a while. Kept dozing off. Left with Bala Sir as the general crowd was warming up. Reached hotel by 0400.
Fell dead on the bed.
